In short
- 18+ only. Report anyone who seems younger.
- No nudity, sexual content or sexual requests, ever.
- Respect people: no harassment, hate, threats or doxxing.
- Be real: no fake cameras, bots, spam, ads or scams.
- Never record or share other people without their consent.
This summary is for convenience only. The full text below is what applies.
TalkKiwi is for friendly conversation between adults. These rules apply everywhere on TalkKiwi: stranger chats, group rooms, question mode, friend messages, calls, profiles, usernames and photos. By chatting, you agree to them and to our Terms of Service.
1. You must be 18 or older
No exceptions. If someone looks or says they are under 18, end the chat and report them with the reason Under 18. Users flagged as possibly underage cannot chat until a moderator has reviewed their account. Anything that sexualises minors leads to a permanent ban and a report to the authorities. See our Child Safety Policy.
2. No nudity or sexual content
- Keep your clothes on and your camera pointed at your face. No underwear-only, shirtless-in-bed or suggestive framing.
- No sexual acts, gestures, touching or sexual talk, and no asking others to undress or “show” anything.
- No sexual or pornographic images, GIFs, links or usernames.
- No offering, selling or asking for sexual services, content or “premium” accounts.
- No prostitution, sex trafficking or sexual exploitation of anyone, ever. This is reported to the authorities.
Likely nudity is blurred automatically on the viewer’s screen and can lead to an instant disconnect and review.
3. Respect people
- No harassment, bullying, insults aimed at a person, or repeated unwanted contact.
- No hate speech or slurs about race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
- No threats, blackmail or extortion, including threatening to share someone’s images or chats (“sextortion”).
- No violence, gore, animal cruelty, weapons shown to intimidate, or promotion of terrorism or extremism.
- No encouraging self-harm, suicide or eating disorders. If someone seems at risk, end the chat kindly and report it so we can help.
4. Protect privacy
- Do not ask strangers for, or share, addresses, phone numbers, school or workplace, financial details or passwords.
- Do not share anyone else’s personal information or images (“doxxing”).
- Do not record, screenshot, stream or share anyone’s video, voice or messages without their clear consent.
5. Be real
- On video, your face should be visible. Masks may decorate, not hide, your face.
- No virtual or fake webcams, pre-recorded video, or pretending to be someone else, including TalkKiwi staff.
- No bots, scripts, spam, advertising, links to other sites or recruiting for other apps.
- No scams, phishing, crypto or investment pitches, romance scams, or asking for money or gifts.
6. Keep it legal
- No drugs, weapons, gambling or other illegal goods and services.
- No content you do not have the rights to share, such as streaming films or matches.
- Do not get around a ban, restriction or filter, including by making new accounts or using a VPN to do so.
- Do not make false reports or misuse reporting and blocking to harass someone.
7. Group rooms and profiles
- Stay on topic in group rooms and do not flood the chat.
- Profile photos must show you, be appropriate for all audiences and contain no text, links or contact details.
- Usernames, display names and bios must follow these rules too.
What happens when rules are broken
Reports go to moderators with the recent conversation, and for video a few frames, attached. Depending on how serious it is, we may disconnect the chat, warn you, limit features, pause your account for review, or suspend or permanently ban your account and device. Serious harms, including anything involving minors or threats to life, are reported to the authorities. Bans are never sold. If you think a decision is wrong, you can appeal for free.
Stay safe
- You are never obliged to keep talking. Press Skip or Stop at any time.
- Remember that anyone can record their own screen. Do not show or say anything you would not want shared.
- Be careful about moving to another app or meeting someone in person.
- If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services first. More tips are in our Safety Centre.
